Yesterday DJI released the Mavic 3 Classic. The Mavic 3 Classic is essentially the same drone as the Mavic 3, without a telephoto lens. It’s not a groundbreaking release from DJI, but pretty cool nonetheless. It’s a way to lower the price for the Mavic 3 to get to a broader audience.
I’ve wanted a Mavic 3 for a while, but I couldn’t justify the cost. Since this is a Mavic 3 with the same sensor, 46-minute flight time, and all the other bells and whistles, I had to pick it up. I can live without the Telephoto lens and ProRes. So I rushed down to Best Buy and picked one up.
Here’s what I’ve noticed so far.
Bigger Frame
I have an Air2S and Mini 3. Both are small drones, and I’ve gotten used to that. This one is considerably bigger. The Mavic 3 frame is great for wind, as I found out the first time I flew it. We had several good gusts of wind that didn’t affect the drone much.
The flight is smooth. I noticed “Cinematic” mode is a bit slower than my other DJI drones, and I like it. Plus, I can change gain and expo on it to really fine-tune it.
Great Image Quality
The image quality in this is fantastic. I haven’t played around with the settings much, and it wasn’t the best day for shooting, but the images came out great.
Excellent Video Quality
The video quality is fantastic. I recorded some stuff in auto with Dlog. I have yet to experiment much, but even with little modification, the video is smooth and crisp. Very nice.
Great Battery Time
I charged it up, did all the updates, and flew it around for quite a while. I still had plenty of battery. It drains slower than I would expect. And I did take it on a few “punchout” runs to see how it flew. Perfectly fine.
Conclusion
I’m thrilled I purchased this drone. I was planning on buying a Mavic 3 at a certain point (or waiting for Mavic 4), and when this came out, I couldn’t resist it. I had to do it. I’m happy I did. This will help me a lot with my professional work and hobby stuff. It’s perfect for people like me: the occasional professional hobbyist.
